Bringing the World to Gloucestershire: Free VR Experiences for Local Care Homes

The Benefits of Virtual Reality for the Elderly

The Benefits of Virtual Reality for the Elderly

Imagine taking a resident for a stroll through the lavender fields of the Cotswolds, or standing on the historic Gloucester Docks in the sunshine—all without them ever having to leave their favourite armchair.

At Ellia, we are on a mission to combat isolation and boost wellbeing right here in our community. We are delighted to offer free Virtual Reality (VR) sessions exclusively to care homes, day centres, and community groups across Gloucestershire.

Why We Are Focusing on Gloucestershire First

We believe that charity begins at home. Before expanding further, we want to ensure our local seniors in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Tewkesbury, and the Forest of Dean have access to cutting-edge technology that enriches their lives.

Whether you are an Activities Coordinator in Cirencester or a Care Home Manager in Quedgeley, we want to partner with you to bring a spark of joy to your residents' daily routine.

What Happens During a Session?

We understand that introducing new technology can be daunting for some older adults. That is why our approach is centred entirely on human connection, not just gadgets.

As you can see from our recent visits, our sessions are fully guided:

  • Personal Guidance: Our local team members are there every step of the way. We sit beside the resident (as seen in the photos above), holding their hand if needed, and guiding them through what they are seeing.

  • Comfort First: We use lightweight, wireless headsets designed for comfort. The experience is always seated and relaxed.

  • Shared Joy: It isn't a solitary experience. It creates immediate conversation. You might see a gentleman pointing out a bird he spots in a virtual forest, or a lady smiling as she revisits a travel memory.

Tailored Experiences for Local Interests

We can tailor the VR content to suit your residents. This includes:

  • Local Reminiscence: Virtual walks through British heritage sites.

  • Nature Therapy: Relaxing environments that bring the outdoors in—perfect for those who can no longer visit the Gloucestershire countryside easily.

  • Animal Encounters: Getting up close with wildlife in a safe, controlled way.

The Benefits for Your Residents

Why should your Gloucestershire care facility book a session?

  1. Combating Isolation: For residents with limited mobility, their world can shrink. VR opens it back up, providing a sense of freedom and travel.

  2. Cognitive Stimulation: New sights and sounds stimulate the brain, which is fantastic for sparking memories and encouraging speech.

  3. It’s Free: We operate on a charitable basis to ensure cost is never a barrier to wellbeing.

Areas We Cover

We are currently prioritising bookings for facilities within the GL postcode area, including:

  • Gloucester & Cheltenham

  • Stroud & The Five Valleys

  • Cirencester & The Cotswolds

  • Tewkesbury

  • Forest of Dean
