Looking for flexible, local work that fits around your life in Gloucestershire? Join Ellia as a Home Help and Companionship Assistant. You choose when you’re available. We offer fair pay, paid holiday accrual and supportive training. It’s a casual arrangement with no minimum hours, and you’re free to work elsewhere too.

What you’ll do

You’ll visit people in their own homes to help with the practical things that make daily life easier, plus friendly company when it’s wanted. Typical tasks include:

  • Light housework like tidying, dusting, vacuuming and cleaning kitchens and bathrooms

  • Laundry and ironing

  • Changing bedding and taking bins out

  • Simple meal prep and making a cuppa

  • Local errands such as shopping or prescriptions

  • Basic admin or tech help like reading letters or setting reminders

  • Accompanying clients to nearby appointments or social activities

This is non-medical support. You won’t provide personal care or clinical tasks.

How flexibility works

Tell us the days and times you can work. We offer visits by text, email or app. You can accept or decline based on your availability. We keep your travel sensible by matching you with nearby clients. If a match isn’t quite right, we’ll try to find a better fit.

    • £15 per hour, paid monthly on the last Friday with a detailed payslip

    • Holiday pay accrues at 12.07% of hours worked

    • Mileage reimbursed at 45p per mile between client visits when you use your own car

    • A cancellation payment if a confirmed visit is cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice

  • You take pride in doing a good job, are warm and reliable, and you like practical, hands-on work. You are happy working independently in people’s homes. You have a car for local travel and you’re comfortable using a phone for messages and schedules.

  • Across Gloucestershire and nearby areas. We plan routes carefully so your visits are clustered where possible.

  • You’ll get a paid induction and simple, practical training. We cover professional boundaries, safeguarding, emergency procedures, health and safety and how we handle data.

  • You’ll need the right to work in the UK, a basic DBS check, and a valid driving licence if you’re driving for work. Keep your vehicle roadworthy and insured for business use when required.
